Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) las launched a programme for Polish researchers. We would like to kindly ask you to spread this information among your contacts:

1. Objective of the programme

The objective of the Polish Returns (Polish: Polskie Powroty) programme is to enable Polish scientists to return to their country and take up employment in Polish higher education institutions or research units. The programme will create optimal conditions for returning scientists to conduct in Poland world-class research and/or development work. Funds obtained as part of the Polish Returns programme will facilitate offering the returning scientists remuneration at a European level and will facilitate the forming of a project group (research team). Polish higher education institutions and research units will draw in specialists with international experience and expertise on the latest research in their respective disciplines.

2. To whom is the programme addressed?

The programme is addressed to the scientists who:

a. have Polish citizenship;

b. hold at least the PhD degree;

c. are not employed in Poland at the time of submitting the application;

d. return to the country after at least two years of documented employment at a higher education institution abroad/research or scientific institute/research department of a foreign enterprise based outside of Poland;

e. are scientifically active, which means that they have conducted research, didactic or other scientific activity during their stay outside Poland for at least two full years (in the period counted from the beginning of 2014). Allowances can be made for the possibility of interruptions in scientific activity during the two-year stay abroad (e.g. in connection with maternity leave, parental leave, fortuitous events, unforeseeable circumstances, etc).

3. What is the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) financing under the programme?

The programme is financing:

· remuneration of the returning scientist (for a period of 36-48 months) along with employer costs;

· remuneration for two members of the project group (for a period of 36-48 months) along with employer costs;

· costs of relocation;

· cost of adaptation of the workplace.

NAWA will provide the financing of projects for the duration of 36 to 48 months limited to a maximum amount of PLN 2,175,000 per project.

4. What we expect from the returning scientist?

The task of the returning scientist is to create his own project group and apply for grants to Polish and international research funding institutions, as well as to conduct and disseminate research results in renowned scientific journals or to conduct development/implementation work. As part of the projects financed in the programme, the applicants plan research activities to be carried out during the project. The returning scientist will also be able to support the host institution by combining research work with management, didactic and mentoring functions.

5. Who may apply?

Proposals can be submitted by the following institutions:

· higher education institutions,

· scientific units of the Polish Academy of Sciences,

· research institutes,

· international scientific institutes operating in the territory of the Republic of Poland

which plan to employ the returning scientist.

What is important, the institutions (applicants) do not have to incur additional costs of employment of the returning scientist and/or the members of the project group. The grant from NAWA will cover the total cost of remuneration incurred by the employer. The applicant may provide its own contribution to the project, but it is not obligatory.

6. Duration of projects

The projects should be implemented within 36 to 48 months. The implementation of the project may start no earlier than October 1, 2018 and no later than June 30, 2019.

7. When is the deadline for submission of proposals?

Proposals must be submitted by 31 May 2018 only in the NAWA ICT system, at: https://programs.nawa.gov.pl/login.

8. Project budget

Following costs are eligible:

a. remuneration of the Returning Scientist (for a period of 36-48 months) along with employer costs. The amount varies depending on the stage of his scientific career and is:

· PLN 350 000 (total cost of remuneration incurred by the employer) per year for an experienced scientist employed on a full-time basis;

· PLN 240 000 (total cost of remuneration incurred by the employer) per year for a scientist employed on a full-time basis who does not meet the criteria for experienced scientist;

b. remuneration for two members of the project group (for a period of 36-48 months) along with employer costs - PLN 180,000 in total per year;

c. costs of relocation of the returning scientist and his/her family – limited to a maximum amount of PLN 30 000;

d. cost of adaptation of the workplace – limited to a maximum amount of PLN 25 000.

The University of Torino is pleased to announce that the First Call for Applications for the project "PhD Technology Driven Sciences: Technologies for Cultural Heritage (Tech4Culture)" is now open.

Tech4Culture is supported by the MSCA-COFUND scheme and by the banking foundation Compagnia di San Paolo.

Tech4Culture is a new doctoral programme in technologies applied to Cultural Heritage.

The Longevity and Rejuvenation group in the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (www.medils.hr/) invite applications for the position of Research Technician in biochemistry and cellular biology.

Our group focuses on the identification of new molecules and synergistic cocktails of molecules that could slow down, stop or even reverse the aging process. Our model of study is primary human skin fibroblasts but include other model organisms. We are also investigating all the possible cause of cellular aging to provide a more solid ground and potential new targets for this identification of molecules. We are especially interested in protein protection, cellular recycling mechanisms, mitochondria and cellular senescence. The search for new active compounds is also at the heart of our activity.

We are looking for an experienced biologist with strong motivation, teamwork skills and adaptability to work on various projects. The selected candidate will have to work on various aspect of molecule screening including extraction and isolation of new molecules from extracts (HPLC), work in cell culture and test of biological markers of aging on 96-well plate reader, fluorescent microscope and flow cytometer.

We are looking for a motivated, inquisitive and independent postdoctoral researcher with strong background in biochemistry or biophysics for a long term research project on innovative solutions for early and even predictive diagnostic of age-related diseases at Center of excellence for science and technology integrating Mediterranean region (STIM) – STIM-REI project (research, innovation and education).

This strongly application-oriented research position is an integral part of interdisciplinary research activities unifying design and verification of innovative nanosensors and their use for in-vivo detection of protein damage at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS) in Split, Croatia (http://www.medils.org). This project relates also to the fundamental question whether protein damage underlines aging and age-related diseases.

Research will be mentored by prof. Miroslav Radman, one of the world leaders in DNA repair and the biology of aging. This collaborative effort will bring together expertise in theoretical design of nanomaterials (prof. Vlasta Bonačić-Koutecky, STIM-REI, Croatia), synthesis and experimental verification of the nanomaterials (dr. Rodolphe Antoine, dr. Philippe Dugourd, University of Lyon, France) and age and stress related quantification of protein damage (dr. Anita Kriško, prof. Miroslav Radman, MedILS, Croatia).

University of Deusto opens the second call to recruit 8 Marie Sklodowska-Curie researchers.

Supported and co-funded by the European Commission (Marie Sklodowska-Curie) and other 40 partners, the University of Deusto opens the second and last call to recruit 8 researchers for three years.

The Deusto International Research School (DIRS) aims at attracting qualified international Early Stage Researchers for high quality PhD training. Selected researchers will enrol in an attractive and highly internationalised, inter-disciplinar and inter-sectoral research eco-system. PhD researchers develop their work in one of the seven existing doctoral programmes linked to one the four focus areas: Health and Wellbeing; Human Rights, Peace and Conflict Resolution; Sustainable Development and Innovation; and Education and Lifelong Learning.

There is a choice of 21 selected topics for recruitment. From all candidates applying to these topics, 8 researchers will be recruited in the 2017 Call within the mentioned 4 focus areas.

Following high quality European Commission’s requirements, the candidates will be selected via an open, transparent, merit-based, impartial, equitable and internationally advertised procedure, in order to avoid any kind of inequality or discrimination, guarantying a fair selection process.

The University of Padova (Italy) is pleased to inform you that the calls for 4 postdoctoral positions have been announced within the frame of the ERC-funded project "PREWArAs - The Dark Side of the Belle Époque. Political Violence and Armed Associations in Europe before the First World War".

The Principal Investigator of the project is Mr Matteo Millan, associate professor of Contemporary History at the University of Padova. The project - based at the Department of Historical and Geographic Sciences and the Ancient World - consists in a comparative historical research on various armed associations and forms of political violence in Europe from the 1890s to 1914.

The 4 postdoctoral positions are devoted to the study and collection of sources in archives and libraries on armed movements (e.g. militias, para- and pre-military groups, shooting clubs, vigilante associations, etc.), acting respectively in Germany, France , the United Kingdom and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

A PhD is required as well as specific language skills.

We are pleased to invite you to the Conference “OMICs 2.0: Advances in Biomedical Research” which will take place on July 3rd – 7th, 2017. in Split at Mediterranean institute for life sciences – MedILS.

Novel technological advances have allowed biologists to take a sharp turn in their approaches to decipher molecular function and basis of physiological and pathological mechanisms. This conference will bring together researchers who are applying and developing novel “OMICs” approaches with an ultimate goal of understanding the functions of genes & proteins of therapeutic importance. The aim of the conference is to assess the current state of the art for approaches to gain functional understanding of human diseases. The meeting will feature sessions on targeting the vulnerabilities of diseased cells, new technologies such as high-throughput CRISPR and RNAi screens, automated phenotyping, metabolomics, and chemical genomics, as well as bioinformatics approaches for biomedical research.

Conference is jointly organised by Mediterranean institute for life sciences – MedILS and University of Toronto.

The University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin is looking for guest lecturers that could address the issues of data protection and information security in the form of lectures and workshops as a part of the new university course.

The course is planned as a Visegrad University Studies Grant initiative the University is applying to with its project proposal. The main focus will be on data protection and information security in the Visegrad Group (V4) countries in the changing legal reality of the European Union. The course will describe and examine changes in the EU legislation in the field of data protection based on:

- the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation);

- the Directive (EU) 2016/680 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data by competent authorities for the purposes of the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences or the execution of criminal penalties, and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Council Framework Decision 2008/977/JHA.

In order to increase the understanding of the influence the new legislation has and explain the important information security aspects relating to it, the university is looking for experts in the fields of the European Union law, cybersecurity, data security, personal data protection and law enforcement.
