BI/110004/SMARTCOAT_UOSE
(Project overview: The project aims the application of optical fiber sensors embedded in composite materials to the
monitorization of physical parameters )
BI/110005/FIRE-ENGINE_UITT ( Project overview: The work to be carried out consists of: developing a generic system dynamics model of wildfire management systems; applying ethnographic methods to understand decision processes and interactions between stakeholders and the forest system, and the key policy controls for these dynamics; improving and validating the system dynamics model; developing a multiobjective optimization tool to support the search for optimal operations strategies in a simulation framework; integrating the system dynamics model within the simulation optimization framework; application to selected case studies. This project is developed in the scope of the MIT Portugal Program, in collaboration with MIT Engineering Systems Division, Portucel Florestal, Instituto Superior de Agronomia, and Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
BI/110006/Palco3.0-2_LIAAD (Project overview: The grantee will be part of a team whose aim is to design and add self-adaptive functionalities to an existing commercial website, as well as a tool to monitor the activity in the website. The grantee will participate in the design of these functionalities and tools and will be responsible for the task of implementing, evaluating and documenting them. There will be the opportunity for research work in the area of applications of data mining to web automation using data from accesses, content (including audio content), and user interactions.)
BI/110007/SELF-PVP_UTM (Project overview: The Fellow will integrate an international research team composed by elements from universities, research institutes and companies from Portugal and United States of America. This team aims to develop a solution to improve the power efficiency of a photovoltaic plant consisting of up to 200 000 solar panels jointly managed to produce electric energy. The solution consists of controllers located at the solar panels that will exchange information on top of a communications network whose nodes are also located in the photovoltaic cells, involving silicon and non-silicon hardware solutions. The Fellow will be involved in the development of a self-organizing distributed controller for searching globally optimal operation. The Fellow will use concepts from neural network theory and distributed adaptive sensor networks to implement a real-time, on-line adaptation with local-vicinity computation for global optimization. The Fellow needs to be available to spend at least one semester at the University of Florida CNEL laboratory (paid trip), especially at the beginning of the project. During this period the Fellow will be exposed to state of the art techniques needed to accomplish the project goal.)
BI/110008/SELF-PVP_UTM (Project overview: The Fellow will integrate an international project aimed to the construction of a wireless network forcontrolling purposes. Particular attention is paid to the physical level, where power and cost effectiveness are key elements in the overall solution. The Fellow will be involved in the development of a novel RF wireless system using CMOS technology. Many steps of an integrated RF transceiver will be taken, which needs a candidate that shows good experience with IC-CAD software and CMOS RF design.

TISKOVÁ ZPRÁVA - AMGEN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
www.amgenscholars.com
