Expressions of interest 2019

The Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) is looking to host talented and ambitious postdocs as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellows (MSCA-IF). You can find information about the 150 host offers of UCM research groups in the following website:

UCM's Host Offers

What are the MSCA Individual Fellowships?

MSCA Individual Fellowships are designed to help researchers to launch successful academic careers. Enjoying a MSCA fellowship at UCM will allow you to gain research experience, develop research independence and maturity, improve your professional skills and make grow your international profile and network. You will also live in a dynamic, vibrant and multi-cultural European capital city with salary conditions very competitive in relation to the average cost of living in Madrid (gross salary of about € 50,000).

An attractive feature of MSCA-IF is the flexibility of the European Commission (EC) in fixing the start date of funded projects. If necessary, this date could be delayed up to 18 months after the signing of the Grant Agreement. In the current call (2019), it would mean that projects could delay until mid 2021. The fellows be able to optimize the end date of other research contracts through this possibility.

Host institution

The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) as host institution, through its European Liaison Office, will provide support to applicants throughout the proposal preparation process:

A complete "Step by Step" guide with all the materials necessary (e.g. Institutional information, handbooks on “How to Write a Successful Application to the MSCA Program”, etc.) to achieve a competitive proposal.
Support in the application process (e.g. submitting, drafting, etc.) and deep review of the proposal by experienced advisors.
Mediation between the applicants and other services of the UCM (e.g. Technology Transfer Office, Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit, Entrepreneurship service, etc.).
Advising about career development issues, in particular, about those related to the existing opportunities to get funded beyond the IF-MSCA Project.

Furthermore, the European Liaison Office acting as a Local Contact Point of the EURAXESS network will assist the funded candidates on any issue related to her/his mobility.

Are you interested in applying for IF-MSCA?

We are looking for ambitious, creative and scientifically curious early career researchers who meet the MSCA-IF eligibility criteria. You must have a strong track record commensurate to your research experience, a clear idea of what you will achieve during your fellowship and a reflexive understanding of your career development needs.

If you are ready to take the next step in your research career look into our university's host offers and find the one that best suits yours interests. Once you have it, contact directly with the corresponding Scientific Supervisor to send him/her your candidature.

Research Position in Emotions and Human Motion

Department of Industrial Engineering and Management

Agricultural, Biological, Cognitive Robotics Initiative

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel

Research position from 4 months to 12 months with an option of extension

Research topic: Effects of people’s emotional state on their body motion

This research project aims to examine the effects of people’s emotional state on their body motion. Based on data generated in lab experiments using a Motion Capture System, we will investigate the relationship between people's emotional state and their body motion and will develop models and algorithms for emotion recognition based on human motion. Such models may be used to develop robots that express emotion in their motion and/or devices that can recognize people’s emotional state by monitoring their motions. The project combines data acquisition of motion data, theoretical work, and implementation work.

This is an interdisciplinary project conducted in collaboration among researchers from engineering and from behavioral sciences. The research team is led by Dr. Raziel Riemer who specializes in research in biomechanics, and Hila Riemer who specializes in research on emotions across cultures.

Requirements

The applicant for this position must have completed a M.Sc. or M.A. in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Psychology, Biomechanics, or Cognitive Sciences. The applicant must be skilled in both oral and written communication in English, can work independently as well as in collaboration with others. We are looking for candidates with strong technical and programming skills. Experience in traditional biomechanics and motor control research techniques, such as motion capture, force measurement, electromyography, programming (MATLAB/C++/python), and statistics are merits. Candidates should have interest in understanding human behavior (although should not necessarily have background in such topics) and be passionate about learning and developing knowledge in a novel and exciting area.

Dear all,

we are happy to announce that the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica is currently seeking for a postdoctoral researcher with strong technical skills to join the project HIPPOPLAST (FLAG-ERA JTC 2017), funded by the European Commission. The contract is expected to start in April 1st, 2019, and will finish at the end of the tasks required in this position for the project, likely September 31st, 2021.

The post-doctoral researcher will be involved in developing computational models in the framework of a Flag-Era project of the Human Brain Project, in collaboration with experimental groups located in Marseille and Budapest. The goal of the theoretical group, located in Barcelona, is to understand the computational benefits for navigational strategies of mixing rigid and plastic neurons into the same hippocampal network. This theoretical project itself is comprised of three separate objectives:

1) The relative contributions of network heterogeneity versus single-cell diversity in generating plastic and rigid assemblies.

2) How diversity affects the fidelity of the place-cell code: an information theoretic study.

3) How diversity shapes replay in hippocampal networks.

Our end goal will be to provide a predictive model that combines all the experimental data sets from our experimental collaborators. While our work will specifically address hippocampal place-cell dynamics, we will also seek to gain insight into possible fundamental computational advantages of heterogeneity in neuronal networks in general.

The selection process is led by the research project team, and will be overseen by the Director and Manager of the CRM. This process consist of:

1) Admission of candidates: applicants must submit a résumé, a cover letter (maximum 500 words) and the questionnaire attached to the offer, by e-mail to crm@crm.cat, until February 15th at 2:00 p.m., indicating the reference code of the offer. Applications referred to another portal, other than CRM job openings section and the instructions included in this, will not be accepted.

2) Pre-selection: determination of compliance with the minimum requirements of the offer.

3) Selection: assessment of the preselected candidates by scoring based on objective criteria.

4) Final decision: in case of finding the suitable person, the election will be formally communicated to him/her, and the identification of the chosen person will be published on CRM job openings section.

You can find more information about this call at https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/369306

The Longevity and Rejuvenation group in the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (www.medils.hr/) invite applications for the position of Research Technician in biochemistry and cellular biology.

Our group focuses on the identification of new molecules and synergistic cocktails of molecules that could slow down, stop or even reverse the aging process. Our model of study is primary human skin fibroblasts but include other model organisms. We are also investigating all the possible cause of cellular aging to provide a more solid ground and potential new targets for this identification of molecules. We are especially interested in protein protection, cellular recycling mechanisms, mitochondria and cellular senescence. The search for new active compounds is also at the heart of our activity.

We are looking for an experienced biologist with strong motivation, teamwork skills and adaptability to work on various projects. The selected candidate will have to work on various aspect of molecule screening including extraction and isolation of new molecules from extracts (HPLC), work in cell culture and test of biological markers of aging on 96-well plate reader, fluorescent microscope and flow cytometer.
